2019 has been the year when the climate crisis has really come to the fore: Greta Thunberg spoke to World Leaders at the UN conference, schoolchildren worldwide have gone on strike to protest, and Extinction Rebellion brought parts of London to a standstill. Here at DataSalon, several of us took to the streets and joined the Global Climate Strike in September.
Our planet is warmer now than at any point in the past 800,000 years, and heating fast. Today’s children face an uncertain and unsafe future, with a very real risk within their lifetimes of extreme weather, threats to food and water supply, displacement of communities, and consequent conflicts. Substantial action needs to be taken within a very short timescale, and on a global scale.
With all that in mind, this year our company Christmas donation will be to Friends of the Earth – a movement of people seeking to protect our beautiful but vulnerable planet from dangers such as climate change, and other issues such as plastic and chemical pollution and fracking. They campaign for real change and have had many successes.
We hope you’ll agree this is a very important cause, and we wish you a happy holiday season and all the best for a peaceful and hopeful 2020.
