Welcome to our last blog post of 2016. We all wish you a very happy holiday season and all the best for 2017.
As in previous years we will not be sending Christmas cards out to mark the festive season. Instead we are supporting some very worthy causes by making charitable donations on behalf of DataSalon’s staff and clients. Although over the last few years we have supported various different charities both home and abroad, we have now decided that continuity is important so will be supporting two of our chosen charities (Future Hope and KEEN) for a third year, and Headway Oxfordshire for a fifth.
Future Hope
Our children have a safe and secure home, school to go to and never have to worry about where the next meal is coming from. Many children are not so lucky. For the third year we have decided to support Future Hope, who provide opportunity through their homes, school and medical programmes to some of the most vulnerable children from the streets and slums of Kolkata, India. Future Hope works to change the lives of destitute children and helps them to become independent, self-supporting members of society. We have been inspired by the newsletters, photos, etc that we have received from Future Hope, and are very happy to support them again. http://www.futurehope.net
Headway Oxfordshire
Our second donation is to the local charity Headway Oxfordshire, who we have now been supporting for five years. Headway provide information and practical and emotional support to those affected by acquired brain injury (caused by accidents but also including stroke and some other neurological conditions). We have visited Headway several times and have talked to some of their users, whose lives have been totally changed by brain injury, who have all said that the support they have been given by Headway, both practical and emotional, has been invaluable. This year our money is going towards their current project to build a dedicated neurological physiotherapy gym at their premises, with equipment specifically designed for people with brain injuries and limited mobility. http://www.headwayoxford.org.uk
KEEN
Finally we will be supporting KEEN, an Oxford based charity providing social and recreational activities for children and young adults in the local area. Activities range from football to climbing, from art to quiz nights, and having fun is paramount. The activities provide a vital lifeline to young people and their families, who can often be excluded from mainstream activities and so can find themselves increasingly isolated. http://www.keenoxford.org
