DataSalon in numbers

Given that data analysis is fundamental to DataSalon’s business, it’s not surprising that we like our statistical facts and figures, and this month we thought we’d share some about DataSalon itself.

Taking  into account all the clients using our two core products, we process a phenomenal amount of information, with 364,019,303 rows of data being loaded into MasterVision and 6,283,684 articles being loaded into PaperStack.

While PaperStack by its nature concentrates on editorial data, MasterVision is very flexible – across the board, we’re integrating 35 broad categories of source data. Submissions, subscriptions, book sales, pay-per view access, usage, denials and membership are the most common, but we’re increasingly seeing data on open access, read+publish deals and article processing charges, while clients may also choose to include conferences, webinars, donations and citations – to name but a few.

Reference data sets are important in linking up all these sources, and at the last count we were automatically matching a whopping 53,483,047 rows of data to Ringgold, ROR or Funder Registry records.

To support MasterVision users in navigating and making sense of all this data, we’ve created 212 search templates and 222 analytics measures.

Sometimes data needs converting into a different format to support efficient and effective analysis – as well as all our standard code, we have 292 custom scripts in place to tailor each client’s set-up to their particular needs.

We’re seeing a fast adoption rate for the optional PaperStack module to track rejected articles, and we’ve already identified the final destination of 2,220,048 rejected articles.

So far in 2023, 1,482 people have used our products, with 377 new user accounts being created. Between January and September, these users ran 79,805 searches across MasterVision and PaperStack, viewed 106,170 records, and interacted with 14,710 charts.

These numbers highlight some of the key benefits offered by DataSalon:
