As part of DataSalon’s ongoing roadmap of enhancements to our PaperStack service, we’re always looking out for ways of improving usability. Most recently we’ve added a handy new feature to allow direct filtering of search results.
Any list of search results – whether that be articles, individuals or institutions, and however you’ve accessed that list – now has the option to apply filters to one or more of the columns, so that you can refine the results without going back to the original report or search. All our standard search aids are available here too, including ‘picker’ widgets to help you set up filters for numerical and date fields, so this is a really simple way of homing in on exactly the results you want to view.
Since all PaperStack charts are interactive, and clicking on a bar, node or cell displays the relevant articles, this is a great way to delve deeper into the detail behind the overall picture you see in the reports. It’s also an easy alternative to building up a complex search in the Advanced Search – you can start with a more ‘broad brush’ approach, then gradually refine it using the filters.
